I Draw a Line, 2010, installation at Arario Gallery, New York, powder, Dimensions variable
The piece is situated in the space so that it is viewed upside down initially. To read the work, the viewer must walk
upon it and over it thus initiating its destruction. By having an audience read and consequently destroy it, the poem’s
content about establishing an “other” to avoid singularity or solitude no longer needs to exist.
The text reads:
I draw a line
to divide this space in two
in order
to know where I am not
to render this space unfamiliar
to imagine that I may not be alone
so that there is room
for a dialogue
for movement
